A Career In Fashion Photography

We see them everywhere, in Magazines, on the Run Way, in advertisements on TV. They are the slender women strutting their stuff or extra ordinary Beauties with their sultry looks flashing their pearly whites while wearing the newest Styles from the hottest Designers. We are talking about the fashion models of today, yesterday and tomorrow. They are everywhere we look, but who brings them to us? Their images are captures with care and precision, patience and that special look for style, color and lighting composition. I am talking about the fashion photographers.

In the fashion circles famous names like Mario Testino (easily one of the hottest names out there) and Eva Mueller (photographer for Fashion Magazine Allure) are just as sought out if not more then those men and women sauntering their way into our conscious.

High Paychecks and glamour's Lifestyle of hob nobbing it with the rich and famous might be the dream of many young shutterbug, however it is not easy to reach the golden Staircases of the well-known fashion houses and magazines. For every one talented photographer, hundreds are left panting at the sidewalk, only dreaming about the moment that their photo will be chosen.

Here are a few tips for the novice and dreamer of dreams in getting started in fashion photography. Study your subject. You can never learn enough. Read and look at any fashion Magazine you can get your hand on. There are fantastic books on Fashion and fashion photography available. Amazon.com has a true treasure trove available.

You need one or two good cameras, tripod and a lighting system. Always make sure that you have plenty of film and batteries available. SLR and digital cameras take different photos, so make sure you find the best for your field.

When submitting your work, hopefully to give a chance you have to have a portfolio on hand, just in case the editor of the fashion magazine wants to see samples of your work. I assure you if they consider working with you that is going to be a fact.

The sharp, bright images of a 4X5" transparency show of your work to its best effort. If you have already had a publication, no matter if, it was a small neighborhood magazine/paper or a contest a tear sheet (literally a sheet you tore out of the magazine) works well. If neither is at hand a good high quality 8 X 10 "is acceptable as well. You want to make sure that you have a minimum of 20 photos in your portfolio and preferably different styles. You want to show your expertise in full figure or just partial body parts.

Remember, fashion includes jewelry and accessories. Sometimes a watch from a famous maker on the slender wrist of a beautiful woman is a good fashion shoot. If you are applying for the job, be prepared to leave your Portfolio behind for an extended period of time, sometimes as much as a couple of weeks. I would advice you to make copies and have several on hand. This comes in handy when showing your work to many different people for consideration for fashion work.

In the time of modern technology, it is good to display your talent as a fashion photographer online as well. Set up a website; submit your photos to contests. Submit them to an online fashion gallery. This helps with getting your work seen and people can see what type of work you actually do and can do for them.

Most editors are looking for your personality in the photos you take. Each fashion photographer captures the soul of the fashion and its model differently. There are a couple of very good 'how to get started' websites on the net. You might wish to start out with http://www.fashion.net/howto/photography/ or http://www.stylecarrer.com/fashion_photographer.shtml. Most importantly, if this is your dream, don't give up. Keep trying and I hope to see your images on the cover of my next hot fashion magazine.

Best Tips to Get started with Still life photography

Still, life photography is one of the excellent ways to express your creativity. Still, life photography also helps you to make money with stock photography or through the sales of art prints.

Still, life photography is one of the excellent ways to express your creativity. Still, life photography also helps you to make money with stock photography or through the sales of art prints.

The main merit point with still life photography is that you don't need to have a fancy studio or a lot of space. You can easily just start with just a window. So at the very top end still life photography is a very lucrative business just because various magazines, catalogs, art galleries all need the product shots. There are many merits of working to still life which is often underestimated.

What is Still life?

There are many reasons why still life photography images are important. It is basically a kind of fine art photography. The subject matter is an inanimate commonplace object. The composition is the main key to still life photography, and you have plenty of time in the world to perfect your vision.

Thus still life is the foundation skill that every photographer should learn to master up. It offers complete control to photographers, which in return gives them enough time to practice until they get it right.

Tips on how to get started on Still Life Photography!

  1. Select the subject that speaks to you

What you are capturing that is totally up to you. Just have good research on everything as you can find something simple but an interesting one to start with. Think outside the box and don't go for shooting flowers and plants as every photographer does the same thing. Think something different from being overly ambitious.

  1. Find Exclusive props for still life photography

The exact prop can add more to your still life photography. There are many household items that can be used as props such as old books, teapots, and glasses. Moreover, different shots of unique cutlery and fresh vegetables can take your photography to its best.

Have a look at your home and find out what the items you have and how you can put them together to make a nice story. You should ensure that the props you are using will work together visually. For instance, if you're in a mood to have the vintage shoot then keep everything vintage looking.

You must think about the color variant as well as texture while choosing the props. It is always recommended to have a simple look that you keep your props just neutral colored.

  1. Select the appropriate background

Whether you are capturing overhead or straight on, you will always need a proper background for still photography. There are various companies that also offer the background for still life and Product photography

So this is another era wherein backgrounds also you can show your creativity. You can create your background with some elbow grease and ingenuity for some part. The options and possibilities are to infinity.

It is best to use neutral and subtle colors in still life photography so that they will not overpower your shots and subjects. So your background can mean in many ways.

  1. Have control over your lighting equipment

One of the greatest things about still life photography is to be able to rearrange the lightings according to your likings and preferences. You can easily move the fruit all around the bowl but will spend all day just getting the perfect lighting or will enhance the post-shoot work for you.

If you are just a beginner then try having the lights which will pass directly to the viewer’s eyes. Light has the power to accentuate the textures in your image. Changing the light source angles can lead to some dramatic changes in the mood and appearance of the picture. We have a great article on using for Photography Lighting Equipment you can check too.

  1. Post-production has no bounds

There are no rules in still life photography, but post-production is a place where anything can be put. The editing routine of any photographer or editor is totally up to them. Many photographers do it to the minimum possible, as over-editing leads to bad photos sometimes. Still, life is the only work of fine art so doing the post-production to its minimum will give you the perfect shots as per your desire.

  1. Planning the shots

Photography can be sometimes technical as well. We can lose sight of the artistic side. So take an adequate amount of time to think wisely about the whole story you want and execute it well.

First, just have a rough idea of your final image as to what you exactly want from your shoot. One other funny approach can be having some random items. Just seeing any of them will help you to create a visual effect but keep in mind to be cohesive. You can select the Best Digital Camera Brand for a shot.

  1. Be creative with Post-Production

Adobe Lightroom is the best way which will provide you what you need to make some nice and beautiful still life photos. Presets of lightroom and photoshop can be very useful to create a constant workflow. Using these will curtail your wastage of time which you spend in front of the computer.

Post-processing work for your still life shots is a bit involving tasks but you need not have to worry where there is Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop. It all depends on what genre of still life you are shooting.

Conclusion

The most essential thing to think about is adequate time, you have to take good time in still life photography. There should be no time Boundation in still life photography. There are plenty of ideas for shots on the internet.

Just pick any of the photography sites or publications and you will get to know each and everything from black and white to still life photography and to futuristic digital creation as well. For the creative artist shooting a bowl of fruits is just a stepping stone.

It is the second thing on which stage your career isFree Articles, your portfolio website will always be the center for your marketing strategies. It is the best way to create a presence in your market.

Significance of Back Lighting in Cosmetics Product Photography

Significance of Back Lighting in Cosmetics Product Photography

Recommend Article Article Comments
Expert Author Aarti R

A lot of people try to shoot their products themselves. While it is a good thing to do, they actually do not have the skill set needed to get a good picture. Amateur photographers too due to lack of experience can leave a lack in a good picture. Decade of experience is a great teacher than just some photography tutorials. That is exactly where a professional photography service company like EtherArts Product Photography comes in to picture. This is what is necessary along with a professional photography gear and some knowledge of Lights and Reflections. In this article, we will share some light on the reflective Cosmetics product photography - Liquid Cosmetics in particular and what are the most important factors that you need to pay attention to for a successful photograph.

Lighting the product takes most of the photographers attention. Every photographer would make efforts to light the product up appropriately. Some go beyond this to light it up so much that the product gets overexposed and is washed out in the pictures. Such images are poor photography. A smart and experienced photographer will pay attention to lighting up the product along with something called backlighting. Backlighting essentially means lighting the back portion of the product Or the background of the product. To do this it is necessary to pay attention to the below mentioned aspects of the product.

Product Nature- Most important is the nature of the product to be photographed. Solid products differ a lot than the liquid containing cosmetic products. Hence we need to be careful while choosing the correct set up.

Background- A lot of times, Ecommerce photography requires white background. Amazon requires a seamless white background for all their listings. This is a mandatory requirement. In order to get this white background, a lot of photographers tend to use extreme bright lights or use a high camera Aperture number. This results in the product getting 'white-washed' and practically disappears in to the light. The contrasts are low and the edges of the products look foggy. For Aroma Oil cosmetics photography, all we need is just the necessary amount of light in the background to get just the correct amount of seamless white. So be careful while trying to get the white background. A photo-editing software will be helpful in clearing what is left of the greyish-whitish background.

BackLighting- Amateur photographers focus less on lighting. They believe that the daylight (sunlight) is the best environment to shoot products in. But they are mistaken. Studio Daylights are different. Use Daylight (white light) bulbs for the lighting. A dark room is a must for product photography. This allows the photographer to control lights as needed, mostly depending on the type of product is shot. For Aroma Oil Cosmetics Photography in particular, try using a low strength daylight bulb as a backlight. This gently illuminates the liquid inside the glass containers giving it the most enhanced look. The yellow or colored oil starts showing a nice color to it, instead of just a black or transparent liquid. This brings out the colors of the oils giving them the much needed wow factor to the photograph.

Air Travel Rules: Flying With Pets

Air Travel Rules:  Flying With Pets

When it comes to air travel, a large number of individuals hit the skies daily.  People fly for all different reasons. Some individuals need to make a business trip, others are visiting friends or family, others are going on vacation, and some are making a cross country move.  If you are moving, there is a good chance that you may need to bring your pet along with you. If this is the case, you will find that you are subject to a whole new set of air travel rules.  Before leaving for the airport, with your pet or pets in tow, you are advised to famialrize yourself with those rules.

The first step in traveling, in the air, with a pet is to make sure that they are even allowed.  Certain pets are allowed to be on airplanes, but that does not mean that all airlines will allow it.  If you are planning on traveling with your pet, you will need to inform your airline of this information upfront.  This is vital because not all airlines will allow you to bring a pet onboard. Therefore, if you do not check with your airline before heading to the airport, you may be unable to board your flight.

When traveling with a pet, you will need to keep that pet contained. That means that if you are traveling with an animal, such as a dog or a cat, that animal will likely need to be in a carrier.  When purchasing an animal carrier, it is important to know that not all carriers are permitted onboard. If you will be keeping your animal in the cabin with you, as opposed to having your animal treated as checked baggage, you will need to make sure that your pet carrier will not negatively affect other passengers. Your pet carrier must not block aisle ways or encroach on other passenger's seating spaces.  In addition to these general rules and restrictions, you may find that each airline has their own set of pet carrier rules.

Almost all airlines require that your pets have the proper documents before being allowed on their airplanes.  These documents most commonly include information on your pet's health.  Most airlines require that your pet undergoes a medical evaluation before being transported by airplane.  This information is not only used to ensure that your pet is healthy enough to fly, but is also used to ensure that they are protected with the proper vaccinations.  Proper vaccinations will not only protect your pet, but other passengers, as well as airline staff.

Once you have received clearance from the airline, which you wish to fly on, purchased the appropriate pet equipment, and obtained the proper health checks for your pet, you will need to wait until your day of travel. On that day, you may want to arrive at the airport a little bit earlier than recommended. This will help to ensure that you could quickly straighten out a problem, without having to miss your flight, should one arise.

When you and your pet arrive at the airport, whether it be early or not, you will both be required to go through airport security. Your pet will be required to pass through a metal detector, just like everyone else.  If you are using a pet carrier, it is also likely that your pet carrier will be subject to examination.  This examination most commonly includes being sent though the x-ray machine with your carryon luggage; however, it is important to note that your pet will not have to go through the x-ray machine; the metal detector should be enough.

As previously mentioned, not all airlines allow their passengers to fly with their pets, even in the cabin or below deck.  That is why it is advised that you determine whether or not your pet can fly with you, ahead of time. In addition to different air travel rules, you may also find that some airlines charged extra fees for pet passengers.  In the event that you are charged, you will be notified of this charge ahead of time.

Air Travel Rules: Traveling With Electronics

Air Travel Rules: Traveling With Electronics

In this day in age, it seems as if all individuals have at least once piece of electronic equipment with them, often at all times. That electronic equipment may include a cell phone, a beeper, a laptop, or a personal data assistant, commonly known as a PDA. If you are one of the individuals that regularly travels around with one or more of these electronic items, there is a good chance that you will be taking them with you when you board an airplane. If so, there is a chance that you may be concerned with whether or not they are a violation of air travel rules.

When it comes to determining which electronics are prohibited aboard an airplane, you will find that almost all are allowed.  Despite this allowance, it is still a good idea that you check with your airline or airport, in advance.  Since most electronic items are expensive, you not want to get to the airport only to learn that you are prohibited from bringing all of your belongings with you, especially something as expensive as most electronic equipment.

As previously mentioned, many individuals keep a cell phone or pager with them at all times.  All cell phones and pagers are permitted aboard airplanes. In addition to being permitted onboard, they are allowed to be stored in your carryon luggage.  Your cell phone or pager, like most other electronic equipment, will be suspect to inspection, if need be.

Laptops and personal data assistants, commonly known as PDA's, are also permitted aboard airplanes.  You are also allowed to store them in your carryon luggage, if you choose to.  If stored in your carryon luggage, your laptop or personal data assistant machine will need to be scanned along with the rest of your carryon luggage. This screening process is safe and should not hurt your equipment.

While the screening process is safe for most electronic equipment, it isn't for all.  There is a chance that your film, especially film that has yet to be developed, could be ruined by the x-ray machines.  In the event that you are storing a camera in your carryon luggage, you will need to notify airport security.  They have alternative ways of checking your camera or film equipment. Other recording devices, such as digital cameras or camcorders, are also permitted aboard an airplane, even in your carryon luggage. It is safe for these items to go through the x-ray screening process.

As previously mentioned, many of the above mentioned electronics can either be stored in your carryon luggage or your checked baggage.  If you are able to store the items in your carryon luggage, you are advised to do so. It is no secret that checked baggage gets tossed around in a number of different fashions.  With expensive electronic equipment, your equipment is less likely to suffer damage if you are the one in charge of caring for it.  In addition to a reduction in damage, most airlines are restricting the use of baggage locks.  This means that it may be unwise for you to store expensive equipment in your checked baggage, especially if you cannot lock it.  Honestly, you never know who may have access to it.

By keeping the above mentioned information in mind, you should be able to pack correctly for your next trip, whether or not that trip is a business trip. Although most airlines do not have restrictions on the electronic equipment that you bring onboard, you will find that the use of these items is often restricted.  A large number of airlines will only let you power up your camcorder, cell phone, pager, PDA, or laptop during specified times.

Enjoying the Great Outdoors without Breaking the Bank

Enjoying the Great Outdoors without Breaking the Bank

Visiting Seattle Washington can be an infinitely fun experience. This experience can be magnified greatly if you find entertainment that is inexpensive of free. The good news is that this type of entertainment can be easily found in and around the Seattle area. The even better news is that I'm going to share some of the many great things you can do for free while visiting Seattle.

Some people tend to scoff at the ideas of freebies, and that is all well and good. Those people are perfectly willing to pay over inflated prices for their entertainment while I hope you will be wise enough to choose entertainment that doesn't come with quite as much sting. Believe me when I say, you do not always get what you pay for and the clichs are correct. You will probably find that many of the best things you find in Seattle are absolutely free.

The first great place I'm going to tell you about is one of those absolutely free places to visit. Not only is it great fun but it is educational as well. I sincerely hope that you will not let the price tag prevent you from the knowledge and good old-fashioned fun you can have at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. There is much to do during your trip to the locks. A few great suggestions would be to walk in the gardens, watch the boats, visit the fish ladder (little ones will find this completely fascinating), and exploring the many exhibits in the area. You can even go on a free guided tour between the months of March and November.

Next, there is The Center for Wooden Boats. What boy doesn't like toys? Or girl for that matter, I know I'm game when it comes to boats, particularly wooden boats. Not only can you go and explore the boats for free, on Sundays at 2:00 (weather permitting) you can go sailing on one of these magnificent watercrafts for absolutely no charge. You can call ahead of time at (206) 382-2628 in order to check water conditions. Because of the popularity of this program it is wise to arrive at least one hour ahead of time in order to participate in the 2:00 sail. There are some Sundays when other events conflict with the Sunday sail so call to be sure that the sail will be offered. Of course, even without the Sunday sail the Center for Wooden Boats is still an excellent way to spend an afternoon dreaming about these fantastic toys.

Finally, I want to mention Ebey's Landing National Historic Reserve. This reserve was created in order to preserve the natural history of the land.  Coupeville is a 19th Century town that has been preserved in an attempt to portray an accurate picture of what life here was like. There is a museum, gift shop, several eateries, and an antique shop that line the once vibrant seaside town. Then visit the Admiralty Head Lighthouse and many of the other attractions that abound. You can take your car and drive the length of the reserve. The drive is approximately 43 miles long and your driving time will depend greatly on the amount of time you spend exploring along the way. If you want to make a day trip of it, you may want to pack a picnic lunch and plan your day accordingly.

Other activities that you may enjoy while visiting Ebey's Landing include: biking, boating, camping, fishing, hiking, kayaking, nature walks, scuba diving, wildlife viewing, and bird watching. Visiting this reserve is literally taking a step back in time. I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do.

With so many great things to do for free, who would ever want to leave Seattle Washington? The best news is that this is only a small glimpse of the great ways to have fun while visiting this unique and wonderful city.

Lots of books, websites and e-books are available to teach yourself about the basics of photography. Otherwise, you may prefer to learn from other established photographers. Whatever your decision is, if you are dedicated, you can achieve the best.

Get the appropriate equipment

The category of your photography will decide what type of equipment you need. In general, you may need a couple of camera bodies and an array of lenses to handle different situations. Some good speedlights to get started are also recommended. You will also need professional photo editing software. Additional equipment for lighting is also required if you are planning for an in-home studio.

Buy equipment economically

Quality equipment is important to take high-quality pictures. So, you may wonder whether it's required to invest all your savings in purchasing brand-new or high-end equipment to start a photography career. It's not necessary at all. You can buy used photography equipment that is available in good working condition. Purchasing old models at a discounted price will help you a lot to save your money for future investment. Also, you can rent or borrow equipment to start a professional event photography career. Once you are settled down, invest in a high-end and expensive kit.

Know your camera and lenses better

Know every setting, lighting mode, error messages your camera shows. Before starting the first paid photo session, you need to know all these to become a good event photographer. You should know about the lenses which one to use in what situation. Also, you should be able to change lenses frequently even keeping your eyes closed. Avoid fumbling with camera equipment. It will leave you completely unprofessional in front of your clients.

Start reading your camera's manual. It will serve you a detailed feature and you will know the camera functions.

To become a professional photographer, start practicing extensively at home. Experimenting with light and shadow, practice with different settings. It will help you to learn the basics of taking the best pictures with the available equipment.
